About the class and me
The end goal of your Spanish education is being able to communicate with other people in the target language. In the next 4 years, you will be going from having little or no Spanish knowledge (1-5 yr olds) to being able to converse both in speaking and writing about complex subjects and ideas in Spanish (12th grader).
In order to reach that goal, we will focus on learning the language as it fits in our everyday lives. We will study literature, culture, conversation, grammar, and the Hispanic world with authentic artifacts. I hope that as you leave the class, you will feel comfortable taking risks and be open-minded to people and cultures different from what you are used to.
A little about me, I was born in Albany, NY. I studied French in high school, but changed my mind and studied Spanish in college ( I loved the way Spanish sounds and the culture attached to it). I married Cesar, a Salvadoran, in 2011. He helped me learn the Spanish language and incorporate it in my everyday life. I speak Spanish every day in my home and am teaching my 2 children (Miguel and Eliza) to be bilingual from an early age. It is a great joy to teach all of you this year, and I hope together we can achieve great things.
